Mercs revive cost increases really fast (ReviveCost=10+1.5 MercLevel ), and it was made like this so mercenaries aren't eternal by reviving them indefinitely, so you eventually have to bury them when the cost is high enough. How am I supposed to afford so many rubies? My mercenary died and it costs 37,887 rubies to revive it. Mercenaries with recruitment bonus are the only exception if they complete a recruitment quest, they will get 8 hours worth of experience even though it takes less time for them to complete that type of quest. It doesn't matter if you do (24x) 1hr, (1x) 24hr or (288x) 5min Quests, the amount of EXP you get will be the same. You gain +1 lvl for every 24 hour worth of Quest completed. Candy Canes(removed in current time) were a form of extra life, and you could use as many as you had on the merc. After the rarity 'Rare' with 1 extra life, it adds one the next rarity if your Merc is given extra lives. Once you use all of them you will have to spend Rubies to revive your Mercenary so use it wisely! Extra Lives Mercenaries does not have stats that will affect the reward amount other than it's level. There is a finite amount of free revives you can get. When a Mercenary with 'Extra Lives' stat dies, you are given the option to use an extra life which is a free revive or spend Rubies to revive it. For example, a Mercenary with a '+20% to Hero Souls' stat will only affect Hero Soul quests that it takes. The stat does not affect any other Mercenary that you have. No, Mercenary stats only boost it's own rewards. The maximum amount of Mercenaries you can have at any given time is 5. Having a Mercenary with a Mythical or higher rarity and a "-recruitment time on quests" stat would greatly benefit this process. The only way of going about on choosing a Mercenary that you want is to continuously dismiss and hire new ones until you get an ideal Merc. The stat and rarity of your first Mercenary is chosen at random and then a merc seed is generated afterwards. Can I choose the type of Mercenary that I want? Math on what mercenary quests are best to take and when to revive mercs If you remove all 5 Mercenaries the game will default to an automatic 8-hour cooldown period before it unlocks another new Mercenary. When the Mercenary fails a quest you will be given the option to 'BURY' it which will then unlock the option to hire another one. The second method of removing a Mercenary is to wait until it fails a quest. The quickest way would be to hold down the SHIFT or CTRL key to "DISMISS" the Mercenary on the spot. The second option is to spend 40 Rubies to unlock a Mercenary immediately. You can hire a new Mercenary by doing recruitment quests that last 8 hours(without added benefit from merc abilities). Additionally, you can also unlock Mercenaries if you purchase a Quick Ascension from the shop since that counts towards to +1 ascension, but this is not recommended due to FANT ending quite quickly. You unlock the Mercenary Tab when you have ascended at least once and have reached zone 140. Reviving a mercenary will allow it to finish the active quest and take on quests in the future, as well as give it a new TTD(time till death). If the mercenary dies, you must choose to revive or bury that mercenary. Unless the mercenary dies, the quest is guaranteed to finish at the end of the set time for that quest. Simply choose the quest and the mercenary will complete it for you. Rewards such as additional Hero Souls, chance of getting more than 1 Relic per ascension, an increased amount to Gold/Rubies, and getting random skill(s) are possible. Mercenaries were introduced in patch v0.23 as a new game mechanic in which you can complete "Quests" to earn extra rewards towards your game.
